David Last (Conductor/Arranager)

Since graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, David has worked worldwide as a musical director, accompanist and arranger, including performances in New Zealand, Australia, the USA, South Africa, Argentina, Cyprus, France, Canada, Spain, Jersey, Ireland, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong and on a cruise around the Baltic region.  He is the musical director of both Dowlais and Cardiff Arms Park male choirs, and conducted both choirs alongside seven other male choirs at St David’s Hall in 2006 with a fifty strong orchestra and Hayley Westenra. 

 He conducted a massed children’s choir of four hundred voices with orchestra at the Wales Millennium Centre, and at the Festival Interceltique in Lorient, Brittany, he took charge of three hundred musicians (mostly bagpipers!) from eight different countries for six performances in front of audiences up to 20,000.  He has conducted live on BBCGrandstand, in front of a capacity crowd at Cardiff Arms Park, at the Millennium Stadium and on the Champs Élysées.  David was principal accompanist of Pontarddulais Male Choir for five years, and accompanied them to victory at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and three wins at the Royal National Eisteddfod. 

He is accompanist for the British and Irish Lions Male Choir, and has accompanied them on piano and organ in Sydney Opera House, as well as in venues around the UK and New Zealand.  He will be travelling to South Africa with the Lions later this year.  In 2008 he accompanied a massed male choir and Bryn Terfel on both piano and organ at Carnegie Hall, New York, and he has also accompanied Morriston Orpheus, London Welsh and Wessex male choirs, Katherine Jenkins, Beverley Humphreys, Shân Cothi, Sian Hopkins, Anthony Stuart Lloyd and Rebecca Evans. 

David has musically directed a number of shows and runs a production company and theatre arts school with his wife, Catherine.  His arrangements and orchestrations have been heard worldwide, including performances in Hong Kong and Vienna, and he recently orchestrated Brian Thompson and Judy I Parker’s version of The Railway Children
